Answering the Most Common Questions About Ring Sizes

Whether you need assistance finding the perfect ring size or guidance through the resizing process, our goal is to provide exceptional experiences for couples about to tie the knot. Based in Melbourne, Australia, Cullen Jewellery takes the guesswork out of crafting customisable lab grown diamond and moissanite engagement rings.

Australian ring sizes: what do they mean?

Australian ring sizes are designated by a scale of letters ranging from F to Z. Typically, ring sizes are categorised into three groups: small (I-M), medium (N-Q), and large (R-U). Men's ring sizes generally tend to be at the larger end of this scale, although there are no hard and fast rules - every hand is different!

Cullen Jewellery offers a free sizing kit .

What is the best method to measure ring size?

The answer to this question may depend on who you ask, as each jewellery company may have their own approach. For the most precise results, we recommend booking an appointment at one of our showrooms, or requesting a Cullen Jewellery free ring sizer to measure at home.

How to convert your international ring size to the Australian ring size chart

Many of our clients are surprised to learn that ring sizes differ worldwide. In fact, there are six standard ring size scales: Australian/British, US/Canadian, French/Russian, German, Japanese, and Swiss, with the most common being Australian/British and US/Canadian. What to do if your engagement ring doesn’t fit

If your engagement ring doesn’t fit, it can most likely be resized. All Cullen Jewellery rings come with one free resizing within the first six months of your ring’s completion (subject to eligible design style/metal type).

How to guess your partner’s engagement ring size

Who doesn’t love a surprise marriage proposal? From the intricately planned proposal to the spontaneous occasion, the last thing you want to worry about is whether your partner’s engagement ring fits correctly. Our favourite trick? Tracing one of their rings. Using a pencil and paper, trace a circle on the outside and inner edges of the ring. This will allow us to find out the inner diameter of their ring and give us a rough estimate of their finger size.

What to do when you fall between ring sizes

Fingers expand in heat and shrink in the cold, so if you are between sizes, we recommend going up to the nearest size. This will allow for some room in the warmer months.

Australian ring sizes are categorised into three groups: small (I-M), medium (N-Q), and large (R-U).

Is it safe to resize a ring?

Depending on the metal and style of your ring, your ring can be resized up or down by as much as two sizes without putting excessive strain on the metal. Notable exceptions include full pavé wedding ring settings and basket settings. To take the guesswork out of the process, we have put our resizing availability guidelines on every ring setting page.

What is the most common engagement ring size?

The most common ring sizes range from K to P. If your measurement falls outside this range, we suggest verifying your ring size using an alternative method to ensure accuracy.
