Everyone loves a good love story, which may be why Valentine’s Day (14 February, 2025) holds so much significance.
While the true origins of Valentine’s Day are lost to time, one story says that it dates back to Roman times, to a priest called Valentine. As the story goes, Valentine defied a Roman decree that forbade soldiers from marrying and wed lovers in secret until he was arrested.
That’s the theory at least. Valentine’s Day wasn’t formally recognised as a day of romance until the 14th century, when the English poet, Robert Chaucer, popularised the concept in a poem.
Of course, love should be honoured every day, but Valentine’s Day calls for a little extra effort. If you are searching for ways to celebrate your relationship, read on for 14 of our favourite Valentine’s Day date ideas.
