Jewellery trends naturally flow into the bridal world, guiding couples toward custom engagement rings and wedding bands that break and remake tradition. For 2025, expect to see ethereal, romantic designs and cocktail-inspired rings leading the way.
Soft and Romantic Engagement Rings
“Lately, the most popular engagement rings we've been creating feature soft, romantic-shaped centre stones, such as oval, cushion, round brilliant, and pear cuts,” says Sevela, Showroom Manager at Cullen Jewellery’s Brisbane showroom. “And for wedding rings, diamond pavé and accent bands with round and oval stones have been our most popular.”
The movement toward soft shapes may have been set in motion by trend-setting celebrities such as Hailey Bieber and Ariana Grande, who both wear oval-cut diamonds on their hands, or reflect a broader shift toward timeless style over fast-fashion, particularly when it comes to lab grown diamonds.
“These timeless, romantic cuts pair beautifully with lab grown diamonds, offering not just a stunning symbol of love, but also a more ethical choice. Our carbon neutral lab grown diamonds are as brilliant and captivating as their mined counterparts while being gentler on the planet and more supportive of communities. It's a perfect harmony of premium craftsmanship and sustainability.”
Avante-garde and Edgy Wedding Bands
Cocktail rings, thicker bands, chunky gems and unusual shapes once reserved for parties are now taking centre stage as wedding bands.
“We’re seeing a lot of interest in unconventional shapes and styles,” says Sevela. “Especially as a point of contrast against more dainty engagement ring settings. Getting married isn’t just about following tradition. Lots of couples want a ring that reflects their personal values and individual sense of style.”
“Our Millennial and Gen X clients love to experiment and tell their own story with a ring setting that brings together edgy and avante-garde design elements.”
Fairytale and Fantasy-inspired Rings
For lovers of fantasy and ‘romantasy’ (novels that combine romance and fantasy elements) delicate, elven-looking rings are irresistible.
“We have many engagement rings and wedding bands that feature fairytale-like elements, from leaf-and-vine style accent stones to regal princess cut gems and tapering marquise cut stones,” says Sevela.
“Many of our clients gravitate toward solitaire rings with accent stones, as well as wedding bands with intricate pavé settings and accent stones for an ethereal look.”
